1 March 1882 letter from Horsey & Co., Fernandina, Florida, on company letterhead, to a Charleston, South Carolina attorney, James Simons, in response to a civil lawsuit seeking damages.
Pre-printed on the letterhead is "HORSEY & CO., Pharmacists, CENTRE STREET, Fernandina, Fla."
The hand-written letter, to James Simons Esq., Charleston, S.C., is dated Mch 1st 1882.
It reads: "Dear Sir, I received by mail this morning a Summons to appear as Defendant in a certain case in which you are an Attorney for the Plaintiffs. I also received several days since a paper to be signed admitting the allegations in the complaint and acquiescence in the prayer for Judgement. As I do not know what the Complaint is, or what Judgement is asked for, I would be very much obliged if you would send me a copy of said Complaint. Yours &c., Louis Horsey"
The full size of the letterhead is just over 8 3/4" height X almost 5 3/4" width. Good condition.
